One of my favorite pictures from our trip. I loved the pride in traditional dress we saw in Chivay

Colca Valley is really beautiful and I would love to see the condors fly. The market also looks really interesting, I love shopping and buying local products. Thanks for sharing on #TheWeeklyPostcard.

I was excited about the condors as well and so happy we added this little excursion on to our trip. I really think Colca Valley is one of the most beautiful parts of Peru and hope to inspire some more travelers to make the visit! Thanks for stopping by with #TheWeeklyPostcard!

  • I love when cultures still wear their traditional clothes! And how awesome is that statue of locals in traditional garb! Thanks for linking up with #TheWeeklyPostcard!

I love it too! In Cusco, it was definitely for tourist purposes, but Chivay was for tradition. Thanks for stopping by!

  • Peru has been on my list for a long time now, but still didn’t make it there. I mainly wanted to go to Machu Pichu, but after reading your post I realized there is way more to see in Peru. Thanks for sharing this on #TheWeeklyPostcard

Hope your find Peru on your itinerary soon! I still have several other cities and experiences to get up on the blog so I hope you follow along! I am also happy to help answer any questions. I spent 2 weeks traveling around and am an advocate for Peru for life!

  • How interesting! I must admit that I have never heard of Colca Valley before. When I hear Peru, I only think of Machu Picchu 🙂 Chivay sounds like such an interesting place to visit and it’s so nice that they still preserve the traditional Peruvian way of life. I look forward to learning more about Peru via your blog!

I was definitely drawn to Peru for Machu Picchu but fell in love with so much more from Peru. Hope I can share a little of that love through my stories! Thanks for following along!

  • I wanted to visit Peru during my 9-month South America stint but stayed far too long in Ecuador and never made it there. No regrets though. Perhaps some other time. Chivay will definitely be on my list! It looks like a charming, not too touristy town, and I love that people there still wear their traditional costume for themselves, and not for tourists. It’s like in Ecuador as well, but if I recall correctly there’s a higher percentage of indigenous people in Peru.

Hope you get to make the trip. We traveled throughout Peru, and it is amazing to see so many different indigenous communities. Each have their own traditions and even language. We learned some Aymara in Puno and Quechua in Cusco. Hope you can follow along and get some more travel inspiration for your trip to Peru!

  • I will tell my husband to get me a book about Peru. Maybe I can go in that way! I want to spend some time in the county because I want to visit Arequipa and the Colca Canyon (in addition to Cusco and Lima).

    • Sarah

Yes! You will love it. I definitely second a trip to Arequipa and Colca Canyon. I visited both (along with Lima, Cusco, and Puno) on my trip and loved every minute. I’ll keep working on my posts so you can use those too!
